As a therapist I thought it was high time to practice what I preach and address my own TMJ dysfunction. In my clinic one of the initial assessments that I carry out is on the TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) I have been aware for many years that my own postural misalignment originates from my jaw. I have suffered lower & upper back pain, herniated discs and have recently been struggling with fatigue. Bowen has helped me so much in that time, however, permanent changes now need to be made.

Today is the day that I’m taking that next ‘big step’ and commencing my treatment. This will involve wearing a device on my lower teeth for the next 6 months. This will gradually realign my bottom jaw. I’ll also be receiving sessions of bodywork that will include Bowen and Sacral Cranial Therapy. These treatments will assist the changes that will happen to my body from the jaw re-alignment.

All very exciting stuff, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little apprehensive but in the long term this process will be amazing for my health, strength and body function. The knowledge I will gain from experiencing this process will be something I can share with my clients and implement in to my treatments at my own clinic.
